Biography
Ida Onyango was born in Nairobi Kenya in 1984. At the age of 4 years, Ida and her mother followed Ida's musician dad Benji Bendrix who had moved to the United States to attend University at California States University, Stanislaus a year earlier. Ida started singing at an early age and by the time she was 6 she joined on stage her musician parents singing and dancing traditional songs for University crowds and people at farmers markets in Turlock, CA. At age 8 Ida's dad enrolled her in the John Robert Powers School of modeling in Stockton, CA where she learned a few things about the glamour life.
Career
At the age of 10 Ida started singing and performing on her own and attending show cases where she won some and lost some. At the age of 13 she was spotted singing at a school function by a Hollywood Producer who signed her to a recording contract for three years. Under this producer Ida blossomed and made several potential hit songs. The lack of finances to promote and market Ida was frustrating and at the age of 15 she temporarily switched from music to acting. After several TV and Film jobs as an extra she finally landed a recurring role on the soap opera “Days of Our Lives” where she worked in 48 episodes playing the character “Georgia Delgado”.
In 2002 at the age 18 she was cast in the movie “Tears of the Sun” starring Bruce Willis where she played the character of “Lasana”, a rape victim. Refreshed from the two year lay-off Ida picked up music again and has never looked back. In 2005 Ida visited her home country Kenya where she was received very well. While there, she worked with top Kenyan producers who produced her collabo work with top Kenyan Artistes. She also shot two music videos: “Nairobi” and “Make it Hot” off of her sizzling sophomore Album, NAIROBI.
Ida continues to bridge the gap between the young and the old with her style of music in which she blends R&B/Hip Hop with Pop and World music. Ida Onyango, now 23, is a vivacious young woman who has already taken the people in her stratosphere by storm and is ready to take on the world. This beautiful young lady has been leaving audiences in awe with her soulful singing and dazzling performances. She has built up an impressive resume with performances in festivals, school concerts, Performing Arts Conservatory public showcases, Jingles, and movie skits. A natural songwriter and composer, Ida blends her creative abilities with her music to form a style that is unique and truly refreshing. A singing virtuoso in her own right, with good guidance and a great management team behind her, the sky is the limit for this young performer.
In 2006 her hip party song “Don't Stop” won the Kisima Awards for Boomba Female, and was nominated in 2007 for Best Female Video and Best East African Video in South Africa's Channel O Music Video Awards. Ida is currently in the Studio working on new material that is rumored to take her to the next level. Along with her album, she has just wrapped promo shooting for upcoming movie “Once Upon A Time In The Congo” which should officially start shooting in the Fall.
Love Life
Probably one of the most famous couples to hook up in East Africa, Ida is currently dating one half of the hit group Longombas, Christian Longomba. They initial meet in Kenya when Ida made her home coming trip were she worked with the Ogopa DJ's who also manage and produce for the Longombas, on her two videos. The couple later on moved to Ida's home base in California USA to live with her parents. It is rumoured that Ida is currently pregnant with Christian's child.
